BUBS & BARRE 2023 6 Week Course, led by Stephanie Hadley. Beginning Tuesday 17th October at 10.30am. This class is a combination of Barre and Pilates and is designed for ladies rehabilitating postpartum and who want to workout in a safe and supportive environment. The class incorporates 20 minutes of centre and barre work, wearing your baby in a front carrier, and 20 minutes of mat pilates work. This class is suitable for ladies which have been cleared to exercise by their LMC (lead maternity carer), and are able to safely wear their baby for a short period and/or baby is able to stay on the mat while supervised. During the course, we will focus on the following: 1. Postural changes – counteracting the increased lordosis (arch) in your lower back and opening of rib cage, which occurs during pregnancy. 2. Safe abdominal training – gentle transverse abdominal and internal/external oblique strengthening exercises. 3. Strengthen Pelvic Floor – regaining optimal pelvic floor function. 4. Upper and lower body strength training - building strength in the areas which are particularly strained in the postpartum period. 5. Mind body connection - some time to connect with bubs and focus on your own mental wellbeing. What to Bring This is an active class where you will be upright the majority of the time. Wear clothing that will allow you to breathe and bring layers for baby as they will get hot while you are wearing them and your body temperature rises. You will need a baby carrier (ideally front carrying either inward or outward facing depending on age and preference), baby blanket for familiarity on the mat and a few toys. Safety First - General Exercise Guidelines 1. Safe baby wearing is paramount. We generally advise using a soft structured baby carrier or a stretchy or woven wrap to provide sufficient support for your baby, however much will depend on the size and strength of your baby’s neck and head muscles. 2. Advise the instructor if you have any pelvic floor problems.
